An osteopath, Dr. Lamont Tyler is board-certified in both family medicine and urgent care medicine, and serves as medical director of OSF St. Joseph Medical Center in Bloomington, Illinois. Dr. Lamont Tyler regularly discusses common health concerns on the local Doc Talk radio show, such as reaching and maintaining a healthy weight.
Many people view dieting as a temporary approach to losing weight. They might severely cut calories and restrict their eating in an attempt to reach their goal weight. While this approach results in weight loss, it is not the healthiest way to shed pounds. Additionally, if a person doesn’t make long-term changes in their habits and approach to eating, the weight lost is likely to creep back on. In order to maximize the chances of long-term success in maintaining a healthy weight, it’s important to plan ahead. There will always be events where unhealthy food might be plentiful. People should consider how they approach these events. It might be bringing a healthy dish that they will feel comfortable eating, for example. Additionally, individuals should consider their goals when going out to eat at a restaurant, and focus on choosing a meal they will feel good about later. Those who commit to a healthier lifestyle and don’t take a temporary approach to weight loss, as is common with dieting, will develop eating habits that are both enjoyable and in line with long-term goals.

Dr. Lamont Tyler has served patients at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center PromptCare for over a decade, overseeing operations as the medical director of the Bloomington, Illinois, urgent care practice. Board certified in both family and urgent care medicine, Dr. Lamont Tyler treats patients of all ages, facilitating convenient, same-day care.
While PromptCare is equipped to handle a range of acute medical concerns, several medical issues are best suited to a hospital emergency department. Individuals should visit the ER if they experience signs of serious illness or injury, including severe chest pain or difficulty breathing, or serious physical injuries such knife or gunshot wounds, broken bones, or severe trauma to the back, neck, or head. Among the critical health concerns that require the attention of the emergency department are signs of stroke, which can include drooping of one side of the face, as well as weakness in one arm, or slurred speech. Seizures and loss of consciousness should always be addressed by an ER physician, as should severe allergic reactions and cases of suspected poisoning or overdose. As an urgent care medical center, PromptCare treats minor illnesses and injuries, including cough and sore throat, flu, minor cuts and burns, and stomach ailments. It also facilitates preventative care, including vaccines, physicals, and STD screenings. Eight months after Dr. Lamont Tyler, OSF HealthCare’s Regional Director of Specialty Care, announced the project was breaking ground, the new OSF PromptCare office in El Paso, Illinois, is now open and serving the community.
The 4,500-square-foot facility is a walk-in clinic that treats patients of all ages for sudden minor illness and injury, including infections such as cold and flu to minor sprains and lacerations. The clinic also provides patients with seasonal flu vaccinations, sports physicals, and on-site X-rays. OSF PromptCare in El Paso also offers occupational health services, including drug screening and the initial treatment of work-related injuries. The clinic aims to provide convenient care for patients by remaining open until 7 p.m. on weekdays. Dr. Lamont Tyler said of the new El Paso office: “We hope to positively impact the El Paso, Gridley, and surrounding communities by living our Mission: to serve persons with the greatest care and love.” OSF HealthCare has more than 50 office locations throughout Illinois, serving patients with more than 180 physicians and mid-level providers. |
